OF THE MAGPIE'S PERCH INITIATIVE
The seed of the METARA Collective was pioneered in 2018 when Philipp Hofer and myself began our crazy journey starting a family. We longed for community and knew that we would first need to journey within and without until we truly understood what that meant and how to embody it.
For the next three years we did a significant amount of research through study and practise and in October 2021 we were finally ready to take a big step. We discovered a beautiful property in the mountains near Plettenberg Bay, South Africa that inspired us to create a sustainable eco-community. Our vision quickly attracted a large group of inspired and excited young people interested in a communal lifestyle in harmony with nature.

Despite an enthusiastic and highly motivation start, the project met a significant obstacle when the property was sold to a smaller group of like-minded individuals who began manifesting their vision on the land.
The vision of METARA shifted its focus into the local domain and we started the educational initiative of METARA’s Unconditional Love School (UCLS), encouraging parents to realise the "Village Raising the Children" tradition and parenting our children with presence.
Although we have not yet found our "Land", METARA is still very much alive and the vision of this NPO is to uplift this organisation and give it wings.

The word "METARA" is inspired by DarPan's Metamorphosis transmission, combining "meta" (Greek for "after" or "beyond") and "tara" (Sanskrit for "star"), symbolizing transcendence and guidance towards enlightenment.

We are the Love family, dedicated to bridging divides and fostering unity through Love. Our mission has always been our guiding light as individuals, and together as a family, we amplify its strength and power. Over the past seven years, we have immersed ourselves in learning about community, relationships, communication, permaculture, and living in harmony with our surroundings. This journey has taught us to adapt to the world around us and discover the true essence of community wherever we go.
Our ultimate dream is to establish a sustainable community where we can coexist harmoniously with our neighbors and contribute to the well-being of the larger community. We envision a place where Love guides our interactions, where every action is infused with care for the environment and respect for each individual’s unique journey.
This dream propels us forward with passion and determination, seeking to create a nurturing environment that serves as a beacon of light for unity and service.
Community is not just a vision that exists somewhere in some other time and place, it is a way of life where we live and express ourselves from unity consciousness, embracing our deep connection with all that exists and with the supreme creator, the source of all sources. We honour the wisdom of our ancestors, carrying their flame forward with grace. We foster a common ground where all differences are embraced, respected, and integrated into a new way of life.
Our journey transcends time and boundaries, moving beyond separation and fear towards a path of oneness and love. This isn't a new invention or idea, but a realisation and harmonization of ancient wisdom from spiritual masters across cultures and traditions worldwide.

METARA'S vision for educating our children embodies the ideal of "the village raising the children". This is the belief that a community collectively shares responsibility for nurturing and guiding its young members. It emphasises the collaborative effort of parents, extended family, neighbours, and community members in the upbringing and education of children.

In this model, children grow up surrounded by a network of supportive adults who contribute to their development through various roles and interactions. It encourages a sense of belonging and security, as children receive diverse perspectives, skills, and values from different individuals within their community.
This approach not only benefits children by providing them with a broad range of experiences and role models but also strengthens community bonds and cohesion. It promotes a holistic view of child-rearing where everyone plays a part in fostering the well-being and success of the next generation.

The METARA Foundation serves a pivotal role as a beacon of holistic living, dedicated to demonstrating and promoting a comprehensive lifestyle centered around service to our community and humanity. Through its initiatives and projects, the Foundation strives to embody principles of sustainability, compassion, and collective well-being. By integrating these values into everyday practices and fostering meaningful connections within and beyond our community, the METARA Foundation aims to inspire and empower others to embrace similar holistic approaches to living.
The METARA Fund

The METARA Fund, overseen by the METARA Fund Cooperative, is established with the primary purpose of financially supporting a diverse array of METARA projects. This initiative is integral to our comprehensive action plan aimed at bringing to fruition the vision articulated in the METARA Collective's detailed Vision Document.
